Brassica japonica

Lime Streaks is a striking Mizuna-type Mustard Green producing masses of finely cut, feathery leaves highlighted by vivid lime-green veins and slender stems. Its delicate, deeply divided foliage gives the plant an almost fern-like appearance and makes it particularly attractive in salad mixes and edible garden plantings.

The leaves have a mild, pleasantly peppery flavour that is more delicate than many traditional mustard greens. Young leaves are excellent eaten fresh in salads, sandwiches and wraps or used as an attractive garnish. Larger leaves can be lightly sautéed, steamed or tossed through stir-fries, noodles and other warm dishes just before serving.

Fast growing and cold tolerant, Lime Streaks is particularly well suited to cut-and-come-again harvesting. Pick individual leaves or cut young foliage regularly while leaving the central growing point intact, and plants will quickly produce another flush of tender growth.

Mizuna has a long history of cultivation in Japan, where its finely divided leaves have traditionally been used fresh, cooked and pickled. Its combination of rapid growth, cold tolerance and distinctive foliage has also made it increasingly popular as a salad green around the world.

Plants thrive in cool to mild conditions and prefer fertile, well-drained soil with consistent moisture. Cooler weather encourages tender growth and a milder flavour, while warmer conditions can increase pepperiness and encourage plants to bolt.

Approximately 150 seeds per packet

Tropics: Autumn to winter
Subtropics: Autumn to spring
Mild climates: Autumn to spring
Cold climates: Spring to autumn

Planting / Sowing

Sow approximately 5–10 mm deep directly into prepared soil or raise in trays for transplanting. Keep consistently moist during germination.

For baby-leaf production, sow relatively densely and begin harvesting once leaves reach a useful size. For mature plants, thin or transplant to approximately 20–30 cm apart.

Grow in full sun during cooler weather, with some afternoon shade beneficial as temperatures increase. Maintain consistent moisture to encourage rapid, tender growth.

Harvest regularly for a continuous supply of young leaves, leaving the central growing point intact to encourage repeated production.

Due to quarantine restrictions, TAS has an 800g limit per each seed variety and WA has a 10,000 seeds limit per variety.
