Raphanus sativus

Fire Candle is a striking long-rooted Radish producing smooth, vivid red roots up to approximately 15 cm long. Crisp and firm with a strong, peppery flavour, it is an excellent choice for gardeners who prefer their radishes with some bite.

Slice thinly into salads and sandwiches, grate into slaws or pickle for a sharp, colourful condiment. The young leafy tops are also edible and can be used fresh or lightly cooked.

Long radishes have been cultivated across Europe and Asia for centuries, selected in numerous colours, shapes and levels of pungency. Fire Candle stands out for its brilliant red skin, elongated form and robust flavour.

Approximately 70 seeds per packet

When to Plant (Australia)

Tropics: April–August
Subtropics: March–September
Mild climates: February–November
Cold climates: August–May

Planting / Sowing

Sow approximately 10–15 mm deep directly into loose, well-drained soil. Space seeds around 3–5 cm apart, allowing enough depth for the long roots to develop straight and evenly.

Grow in full sun during cooler weather or light afternoon shade in warmer conditions. Keep soil consistently moist for crisp, tender roots and the best flavour.

Harvest once roots reach a useful size, up to approximately 15 cm long. Regular succession sowings every 2–3 weeks will provide an extended harvest.

Due to quarantine restrictions, TAS has an 800g limit per each seed variety and WA has a 10,000 seeds limit per variety.
