Cucumis melo

Collective Farmwoman is an old Ukrainian heirloom Rockmelon producing smooth, round fruits approximately 18–25 cm across. The skin changes dramatically as the fruit ripens, developing from dark green to warm orange, while inside is sweet, juicy yellowish-white flesh.

An early-maturing variety with excellent fresh-eating quality, the fragrant flesh is best enjoyed chilled, sliced straight from the fruit or added to summer fruit salads.

Also known as Collective Farm Woman or Kolkhoznitsa, this historic Eastern European melon became particularly popular in Ukraine and Crimea on the Black Sea. Bred for a relatively short growing season, its early maturity made it valuable in regions where melons had limited time to ripen.

Approximately 15 seeds per packet

When to Plant (Australia)

Tropics: March–September
Subtropics: August–January
Mild climates: September–December
Cold climates: October–December, after frost risk has passed

Planting / Sowing

Sow approximately 10–15 mm deep directly into warm, fertile, well-drained soil, or raise seedlings in pots for transplanting once conditions are reliably warm.

Grow in full sun and space plants approximately 60–100 cm apart, allowing plenty of room for vines to spread. Keep consistently watered during establishment, flowering and early fruit development.

Harvest when the skin has changed from dark green to its mature orange colouring and the fruit is fragrant and fully ripe.

Maturity: approximately 80–85 days.

Due to quarantine restrictions, TAS has an 800g limit per each seed variety and WA has a 10,000 seeds limit per variety.
