A striking beefsteak-style tomato with deep indigo-purple shoulders where fruit is exposed to sun, caused by naturally occurring anthocyanins. Flesh is red, juicy, and well-balanced in flavour, with a good measure of sweetness and acidity. Vigorous, indeterminate plants produce reliable crops through the warm season. For best colour and flavour, allow fruit to fully ripen on the vine. Harvest when the underside has turned red and the fruit yields slightly to pressure. Well-suited to fresh eating, slicing, and summer salads.

Lycopersicon esculentum

Originates from the Andes and cultivated in Central America. Suppresses couch grass, high in vitamin C, companion to parsley. Prefers open sunny positions. Sensitive to frosts. Water in furrows rather than overhead to reduce disease, declines if waterlogged. Does well on light to heavy soils with good drainage, high organic matter and phosphorus. Sow anytime in frost free areas, can sow indoors 5 weeks before transplanting in cooler areas or after last frost.
