Capsicum annuum

Marconi Golden is a classic Italian sweet Capsicum producing long, tapered fruits with broad shoulders and a distinctive blunt end. Fruits mature from green to a beautiful golden-yellow, developing a rich sweetness and tender, substantial flesh as they ripen.

A superb culinary variety, Marconi Golden can be eaten fresh and crisp in salads or sandwiches, but its sweet flesh is particularly good grilled or roasted. The long fruits are excellent charred whole, peeled and dressed with olive oil, used in antipasto, stuffed, or added to sauces and Mediterranean-style dishes.

Plants are productive through the warmer months and perform best in full sun with fertile, well-drained soil and consistent moisture. Fruits can be harvested green for a fresher flavour or left to fully colour on the plant for their characteristic golden colour and sweetest flavour.

Approximately 18 seeds per packet

When to Plant (Australia)

Tropics: Most of the year, avoiding extreme heat or wet periods
Subtropics: Late winter to summer
Mild climates: Spring to early summer
Cold climates: Spring after frost, preferably started earlier under protection

Planting / Sowing

Sow approximately 5 mm deep into trays or pots and keep warm during germination. Capsicum seed germinates best with consistent warmth and may be slow to emerge in cool conditions.

Transplant seedlings once the weather and soil have warmed, spacing approximately 40–50 cm apart in full sun and fertile, well-drained soil. Maintain consistent moisture during flowering and fruit development.

Harvest green once fruits have reached a useful size, or leave them to ripen fully to golden-yellow for maximum sweetness and colour.

Due to quarantine restrictions, TAS has an 800g limit per each seed variety and WA has a 10,000 seeds limit per variety.
