Cobaea scandens

Cathedral Bells, also known as Cup and Saucer Vine, is a vigorous ornamental climber with lush, bright green foliage and large, distinctive bell-shaped flowers. Blooms emerge green before developing rich purple tones as they mature, creating an unusual display over the warmer months.

A fast-growing vine in suitable conditions, Cathedral Bells is ideal for covering trellises, fences, arches and pergolas, where its tendrils readily climb and create dense leafy growth. The dramatic flowers make it a striking choice for cottage gardens and ornamental climbers.

A perennial in warm, frost-free climates and generally grown as an annual in colder regions, it prefers a sunny to partially shaded position with fertile, well-drained soil and plenty of room to climb.

Seed count: approximately 20 seeds/g
Approximately 14 seeds per packet

When to Plant (Australia)

Tropics: Autumn to spring
Subtropics: Spring to summer
Mild climates: Spring to early summer
Cold climates: Spring after frost

Planting / Sowing

Sow approximately 10–15 mm deep into pots or trays and keep warm and consistently moist during germination. Soaking the large seeds for several hours before sowing can assist germination.

Transplant once seedlings are well established and provide a sturdy trellis, fence or other climbing structure. Grow in full sun to partial shade and water regularly during active growth.

Due to quarantine restrictions, TAS has an 800g limit per each seed variety. Not available for WA.
