Cosmos bipinnatus

Sensation Mix is a classic tall Cosmos producing an elegant mixture of mauve, pink and white flowers on airy, branching plants reaching approximately 90 cm. Introduced in the early 20th century, the Sensation series was recognised as an All-America Selections winner in 1936 and has remained a garden favourite ever since.

The long, graceful stems and finely divided foliage make Sensation Mix particularly beautiful in cottage gardens, borders and informal mass plantings. It is also an excellent cut flower, producing an abundance of stems for fresh bouquets throughout the warmer months.

Easy to grow and free flowering, the open blooms attract bees, butterflies and other pollinating insects. Regular picking or deadheading encourages plants to continue producing flowers throughout the season.

Seed count: approximately 140 seeds/g
Approximately 80 seeds per packet

When to Plant (Australia)

Tropics: Spring to autumn
Subtropics: Spring to summer
Mild climates: Spring to summer
Cold climates: Late spring to summer after frost

Planting / Sowing

Sow directly where plants are to grow or raise in trays for transplanting. Cover seed lightly and keep moist during germination.

Thin or transplant seedlings to approximately 30–40 cm apart in full sun and well-drained soil. Avoid excessive fertiliser, which can encourage leafy growth at the expense of flowers.

Due to quarantine restrictions, TAS has an 800g limit per each seed variety and WA has a 10,000 seeds limit per variety.
