Mirabilis jalapa

Tall Mix Four O'Clocks are bushy, free-flowering plants producing an abundance of pretty trumpet-shaped blooms in a vibrant mixture of colours including pink, red, yellow, white and magenta. Flowers typically open in the late afternoon and remain open into the evening, giving the plant its familiar common name.

The sweetly fragrant flowers are particularly lovely planted near paths, verandahs and outdoor sitting areas where their evening display and perfume can be enjoyed. Plants develop into substantial, branching bushes and provide plenty of colour through the warmer months.

Four O'Clocks are hardy and easy to grow, thriving in full sun to partial shade. They are perennial in warm climates and often grown as annuals in colder areas where frost may kill the top growth.

Seed count: approximately 25 seeds/g
Approximately 40 seeds per packet

When to Plant (Australia)

Subtropics: Spring to summer
Mild climates: Spring to summer

Planting / Sowing

Sow directly where plants are to grow or raise in pots or trays. Sow approximately 1–2 cm deep and keep moist during germination. Soaking the large seeds for several hours before planting can help encourage germination.

Transplant or thin seedlings to approximately 40–60 cm apart in full sun to partial shade and well-drained soil. Once established, plants are relatively tolerant of dry conditions.

Due to quarantine restrictions, TAS has an 800g limit per each seed variety and WA has a 10,000 seeds limit per variety.
