Gypsophila elegans

Covent Garden Market is a fast-growing annual Baby’s Breath producing masses of relatively large white flowers on fine, branching stems reaching approximately 60 cm. Light and airy, the plants create a soft display through cottage gardens, borders and cutting gardens.

An excellent cut flower, the delicate white blooms are widely used as a filler in bouquets and floral arrangements, pairing beautifully with larger flowers without overwhelming them. The flowers also attract bees and other pollinating insects when left in the garden.

Quick and easy to grow, this annual Gypsophila is particularly useful for succession sowing, providing repeated crops of fresh flowering stems throughout the growing season.

Seed count: approximately 380 seeds/g
Approximately 1,000 seeds per packet

When to Plant (Australia)

Tropics: Autumn to winter
Subtropics: Autumn to spring
Mild climates: Autumn and spring
Cold climates: Spring after frost

Planting / Sowing

Sow directly where plants are to grow, covering seed lightly with soil. Gypsophila dislikes root disturbance, so direct sowing is generally preferred.

Thin seedlings to approximately 20–30 cm apart in full sun and well-drained soil. For a continuous supply of cut flowers, sow small batches every few weeks during suitable growing conditions.

Due to quarantine restrictions, TAS has an 800g limit per each seed variety and WA has a 10,000 seeds limit per variety.
