Gypsophila paniculata

Baby’s Breath ‘Snowflake’ is a classic old-fashioned perennial producing clouds of tiny white flowers on finely branched, upright stems reaching approximately 90 cm. Light and airy in the garden, the masses of delicate blooms create a beautiful soft effect among larger flowering plants.

Long valued by florists, Baby’s Breath is an excellent cut flower and an indispensable filler for bouquets and floral arrangements. The flowers can be used fresh or dried, retaining their delicate form well and traditionally being dyed for decorative arrangements.

Easy to grow once established, plants prefer full sun and well-drained soil and produce an abundance of flowers that also attract bees and other pollinating insects.

Seed count: approximately 1,400 seeds/g
Approximately 300 seeds per packet

When to Plant (Australia)

Tropics: Autumn to winter
Subtropics: Autumn to winter
Mild climates: Autumn and spring
Cold climates: Spring after frost

Planting / Sowing

Sow directly or raise in trays, covering seed lightly with soil or seed-raising mix. Keep moist during germination but avoid waterlogging.

Transplant or thin seedlings to approximately 30–40 cm apart in full sun and well-drained soil. Once established, plants prefer not to be disturbed. For cut flowers, harvest stems when approximately half of the small blooms have opened.

Due to quarantine restrictions, TAS has an 800g limit per each seed variety and WA has a 10,000 seeds limit per variety.
