Papaver nudicaule, Papaver paeoniflorum, Papaver rhoeas

Poppy Mix is a wonderfully varied blend combining several classic Poppy types, including Shirley and Flanders Poppies, Iceland Poppies and large, densely petalled Paeony Poppies. The result is an eclectic mixture of flower forms, heights and colours, with every planting producing a slightly different display.

Expect everything from delicate, tissue-like single blooms to large, extravagant double flowers in shades of red, pink, salmon, orange, yellow, white and mixed tones. The combination creates a relaxed cottage garden effect and is particularly beautiful when sown generously through beds, borders and cutting gardens.

The different Poppy types will not necessarily flower at exactly the same time, helping extend the display. Flowers are attractive to bees and other pollinating insects, while many of the varieties also make excellent cut flowers.

Approximately 1,800 seeds per packet

When to Plant (Australia)

Tropics: Autumn to winter in cooler locations
Subtropics: Autumn to winter
Mild climates: Autumn to early spring
Cold climates: Late winter to spring, or autumn where plants can overwinter

Planting / Sowing

Sow directly where plants are to grow, as Poppies dislike root disturbance. Scatter the fine seed thinly over prepared soil and press gently onto the surface. Cover only very lightly and keep consistently moist during germination.

Thin seedlings as required to prevent overcrowding. Grow in full sun with free-draining soil and avoid disturbing established plants. Because this is a mixture of several species and forms, plant height, flowering time and growth habit will naturally vary.

Due to quarantine restrictions, WA has a 10,000 seeds limit per variety.
