Portulaca grandiflora

Sunnybank Double Flowered Mixed is a vibrant, low-growing annual producing masses of bright, double and semi-double, rose-like flowers above fleshy, succulent foliage. The mixture includes a brilliant range of pink, red, orange, yellow, salmon and white, creating a colourful carpet throughout the warmer months.

Also known as Moss Rose, Portulaca thrives in hot, sunny conditions and is an excellent choice for borders, rockeries, containers, hanging baskets and dry garden areas. The flowers open most fully in bright sunshine, while their low, spreading growth makes them particularly effective planted in groups.

Exceptionally tolerant of heat and dry conditions once established, Sunnybank prefers full sun and sandy or free-draining soil. Avoid overwatering or planting in areas that remain wet.

Seed count: approximately 9,000 seeds/g
Approximately 2,000 seeds per packet

When to Plant (Australia)

Tropics: Spring to autumn
Subtropics: Spring to summer
Mild climates: Spring to summer
Cold climates: Late spring to summer after frost

Planting / Sowing

Sow directly or raise in trays once conditions have warmed. Scatter the very fine seed over the surface of moist soil or seed-raising mix and press gently into place. Cover only very lightly.

Transplant or thin seedlings to approximately 15–20 cm apart in full sun and well-drained soil. Water regularly while establishing, then reduce watering once plants are growing strongly.

Due to quarantine restrictions, TAS has an 800g limit per each seed variety and WA has a 10,000 seeds limit per variety.
