Malcolmia maritima

Virginian Mixed Stock is a charming, fast-growing annual producing masses of dainty, highly fragrant flowers in soft pastel shades of pink, mauve, lavender and white. Growing to approximately 30 cm tall, the compact plants create a pretty, informal display and are particularly lovely planted where their sweet fragrance can be enjoyed.

Quick to mature and easy to grow, Virginian Stock is ideal for borders, edging, cottage gardens, containers and children’s gardens. It is a wonderfully uncomplicated flower for beginner gardeners and can be succession sown to provide repeated flushes of colour and fragrance.

Hardy and adaptable to most soils, plants perform well in full sun but will tolerate partial shade. Virginian Stock is best sown directly where it is to flower and requires relatively little attention once established.

Approximately 600 seeds per packet

When to Plant (Australia)

Tropics: Autumn to winter
Subtropics: Autumn to spring
Mild climates: Autumn to spring
Cold climates: Spring, or autumn where winters are mild

Planting / Sowing

Sow directly where plants are to grow, scattering seed thinly over prepared soil and covering lightly. Keep moist during germination and establishment.

Thin seedlings to approximately 10–15 cm apart. For a longer flowering display, sow small batches every few weeks throughout the suitable growing season.

Due to quarantine restrictions, TAS has an 800g limit per each seed variety and WA has a 10,000 seeds limit per variety.
