Solanum lycopersicum

Nebraska Wedding is a colourful American heirloom producing smooth, round fruits to approximately 10 cm across. Both the skin and flesh ripen to a brilliant orange, with fruits forming in clusters on productive vines. The flesh is meaty and juicy with a mild, sweet flavour.

The variety is associated with Nebraska farming families and is said to have been traditionally given to newly married couples, giving rise to its memorable name. Its history as a variety passed between families makes it a lovely example of seed being preserved through community and personal tradition.

Plants are vigorous and indeterminate, producing good yields of substantial fruit. The vines benefit from sturdy staking or trellising, particularly as clusters begin to gain weight. The orange fruits are excellent for fresh eating, slicing, salads and sandwiches.

Seed count: approximately 250–400 seeds per gram.

Approximately 25 seeds per packet.

When to Plant (Australia)

Tropics: February–August
Subtropics: August–April
Mild climates: August–December
Cold climates: September–December, after frost risk has passed

Planting / Sowing

Sow approximately 5 mm deep into seed-raising mix or directly where conditions are warm. In cooler climates, seed can be started indoors approximately five weeks before transplanting after the last frost. Best soil temperature for germination is approximately 16–35°C.

Space plants approximately 40–60 cm apart with 60–150 cm between rows. Grow in full sun in fertile, well-drained soil and provide sturdy staking or trellising for the climbing vines and substantial fruit. Water at soil level where possible and avoid waterlogged conditions.

Maturity: approximately 110–120 days.

Due to quarantine restrictions, TAS has an 800g limit per each seed variety.
