Coffea arabica

The classic coffee plant, cherished for its smooth, aromatic beans and glossy evergreen foliage. Coffea arabica is a small, branching shrub native to the highlands of Ethiopia and Yemen, now grown throughout tropical regions. Fragrant white star-shaped flowers are followed by red berries that each contain two green coffee seeds. Seeds can take 6 to 8 weeks to germinate, sometimes longer in cool conditions. Warmth, consistent moisture, and patience are key. Best suited to warm, frost-free climates or grown in pots in cooler regions. Prefers rich, well-drained soil and filtered light or partial shade. If you’ve never harvested your own cuppa, Coffea arabica might be your next slow-growing obsession. The process is long but deeply rewarding, a small ritual in patience that ends with your very own homegrown brew.

Approximately 15 seeds per packet

When to Plant (Australia)
Tropics: Year round
Subtropics: Spring to early autumn
Mild climates: Spring and summer
Cold climates: Spring after frost has passed, preferably in pots

Planting / Sowing
Sow seed into a rich, free-draining seed raising mix and lightly cover. Maintain consistent warmth and moisture throughout the germination period, taking care not to allow the mix to dry out. Position in a warm, sheltered location with filtered light or partial shade. Transplant seedlings once established into fertile, well-drained soil or large containers. Protect from frost and cold winds. Plants may take 3 to 5 years to begin producing berries under favourable conditions.

Due to quarantine restrictions, TAS has an 800g limit per each seed variety and WA has a 10,000 seeds limit per variety.
