Atriplex nummularia

A hardy and versatile Australian native shrub found across all mainland states and a familiar sight throughout much of inland Australia. Fast growing and highly resilient, Old Man Saltbush is widely used as a valuable stock fodder plant and provides food and habitat for bees, beneficial insects and wildlife. Growing to approximately 2–3 metres in height, it can also be pruned and maintained as an attractive hedge or shelter planting.

The distinctive silver-grey leaves are edible and naturally salty, making them a unique addition to the kitchen. Traditionally used as a leafy vegetable, the foliage pairs particularly well with meat and fish dishes and can be added to stuffings, dried as a seasoning or used fresh as a savoury herb. The leaves are rich in protein, antioxidants and minerals. Exceptionally tolerant of drought, saline conditions and poor sandy soils, Old Man Saltbush is an excellent choice for challenging sites where many other plants struggle.

Suitable for hedging, fodder production, erosion control and productive edible landscapes.

Due to quarantine restrictions, TAS has an 800g limit per each seed variety and WA has a 10,000 seeds limit per variety.
