Passiflora edulis

A vigorous evergreen climbing vine growing to approximately 6 metres, prized for its beautiful flowers and delicious fruit. The intricate white, green and purple blooms appear through spring and summer, attracting bees and other pollinators before developing into round purple fruit filled with aromatic sweet-tart pulp. The fruit is delicious eaten fresh or used in desserts, drinks, sauces, preserves and baking.

Purple Passionfruit is a productive and rewarding garden plant, well suited to fences, pergolas, trellises and other support structures. Fast growing and attractive, it provides both ornamental appeal and abundant harvests. Rich in vitamins and antioxidants, the fruit is a favourite in home gardens throughout Australia.

Tropics: Year round
Subtropics: Spring to autumn
Mild climates: Spring and summer

Planting / Sowing
Sow seed into trays or pots filled with a quality seed raising mix and lightly cover. Keep warm and consistently moist during germination. Germination can be variable and may take several weeks. Transplant seedlings once established and plant into fertile, well-drained soil in a sunny, sheltered position. Provide a strong trellis, fence or support structure for climbing. Water regularly during flowering and fruit development and mulch well to maintain soil moisture. Prune after harvest to encourage healthy growth and future crops.

Due to quarantine restrictions, TAS has an 800g limit per each seed variety and WA has a 10,000 seeds limit per variety.
