Catharanthus roseus

Rosea Tall is a hardy, free-flowering Vinca producing an abundance of simple, five-petalled flowers in a pretty mixture of carmine, rose and white. Growing to approximately 40 cm tall, the bushy plants provide reliable colour over a long flowering season.

Also known as Madagascar Periwinkle, Vinca thrives in warm conditions and is particularly valuable for gardens where heat and periods of dry weather can challenge other flowering plants. Its compact habit makes it ideal for borders, mass plantings, containers and sunny garden beds.

Plants perform best in full sun to partial shade with well-drained soil and develop good drought tolerance once established. Avoid overwatering or poorly drained positions, particularly during cooler weather. Although perennial in warm, frost-free climates, Vinca is commonly grown as an annual in cooler regions.

Seed count: approximately 650 seeds/g
Approximately 100 seeds per packet

When to Plant (Australia)

Cold climates: Late spring to summer after frost

Planting / Sowing

Sow into trays or pots, covering seed lightly with approximately 5 mm of seed-raising mix. Keep warm and consistently moist during germination but avoid waterlogging.

Transplant once seedlings are well established, spacing approximately 20–30 cm apart in full sun to partial shade and well-drained soil. Allow the soil surface to dry slightly between watering once plants are established.

Due to quarantine restrictions, TAS has an 800g limit per each seed variety and WA has a 10,000 seeds limit per variety.
