Achillea filipendulina

Cloth of Gold is a striking herbaceous perennial producing broad, flattened clusters of rich golden-yellow flowers above deeply divided, fern-like foliage. Growing up to approximately 1.5 m tall, mature flower heads can reach 15 cm across, creating a bold architectural display through perennial borders, cottage gardens and cutting gardens.

The long, sturdy stems and substantial flower heads are excellent for floral arrangements, with an impressive vase life. They also dry beautifully, retaining much of their shape and colour for everlasting arrangements. The flowers attract bees, butterflies and other beneficial insects throughout their long flowering season.

A hardy member of the Asteraceae family, Golden Yarrow thrives in full sun and well-drained soil and becomes particularly tolerant of heat and dry conditions once established. Plants gradually form spreading clumps without generally becoming as aggressive as some other Yarrows and are easily propagated by division.

Achillea filipendulina also has a history of traditional herbal use, particularly in its native range through Central and Western Asia. Like other members of the genus, it has been used traditionally for digestive complaints, inflammation, fever and wound care, although it is much less commonly used in Western herbal practice than the familiar medicinal Yarrow, Achillea millefolium.

Seed count: approximately 9,000 seeds/g
Approximately 600 seeds per packet

Planting / Sowing

Sow into trays or pots and cover seed only very lightly with a fine layer of sand, seed-raising mix or vermiculite. Keep out of direct sun during germination and water sparingly, maintaining light moisture without saturating the growing medium.

Transplant once seedlings are well established, spacing approximately 40–60 cm apart in full sun and well-drained soil. Mature clumps can be divided to propagate additional plants.

Due to quarantine restrictions, TAS has an 800g limit per each seed variety and WA has a 10,000 seeds limit per variety.
